Ogun Police Apprehend Two Women For Human Trafficking

In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, the Ogun State police have apprehended two women, identified simply as Mercy and Itoro.

Their arrest comes on the heels of allegations of involvement in the trafficking of a young lady, identified as Veronica, to Libya for prostitution.

The operation was spearheaded by CSP Femi Osowe, the Divisional Police Officer of Iperu Remo, who led a dedicated team of officers.

The arrest took place on Tuesday, August 31, 2023.

Reports indicate that the suspects were part of a larger syndicate that lured women with promises of better job opportunities and improved lives abroad, only to exploit them.

The unraveling of this criminal network occurred when Mrs. Grace Anthony, the caregiver of their latest victim, reported Veronica missing.

Mrs. Anthony noticed Veronica’s absence on August 27, 2023, prompting her to take immediate action. However, despite initial searches by the police, Veronica remained unaccounted for.

It wasn’t until August 31 that investigators discovered the shocking truth.

Mercy and Itoro had allegedly deceived Veronica and subsequently trafficked her to Libya for the purpose of prostitution.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, officially confirmed the incident.

She reported, “The Commissioner of Police has been briefed on this matter.

She said the Commissioner ” strongly condemned this barbaric and inhumane act and has issued orders for the immediate prosecution of the two women involved.”

This arrest sends a strong message that the authorities are determined to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to such heinous crimes.
