The Ogun State police command has confirmed another carjacking and abduction on Thursday in Sagamu.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the incident was reported by one William Kolawole, a resident of the area.
Odutola said Kolawole filed a report at the Sagamu Divisional Police Station around 8:00 pm detailing the traumatic event.
She added that the complainant said around 19:45 hrs, his wife, Nimota Busari, along with their two children, was returning home from her shop in the Ibepa Area, driving an unregistered navy blue 2010 Toyota Corolla.
Odutola said, “As she approached their gate, three armed men intercepted her, forcibly removed the children from the vehicle, abducted her, and drove off in the car.
“Kolawole was unable to provide further details about the car, as the vehicle’s documents were inside at the time of the incident.
“Police investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.”
Odutola disclosed that this incident appears to be part of a series of crimes perpetrated by a syndicate operating in Sagamu, Iperu, Ikenne, Odogbolu, and Erewon in Ijebu Ode.
“A similar incident was reported on May 11, 2024, in Ikenne at approximately 21:30 hrs. In both cases, the criminals employed a similar modus operandi: lying in wait for their victims at their gates.
“ As victims alight from their vehicles to open the gates, the armed men emerge from hiding, seize the car, and abduct any occupants.
The Commissioner of Police has issued a warning to residents, especially traders, market women, and business people living in remote or newly developed areas.
Residents are urged to return home before dark to reduce the risk of falling victim to these attacks.
The Commissioner emphasized that these criminals exploit dark spots to ambush their victims.”
The PPRO, while recalling, highlighted a particularly alarming incident from last week where a baby was also stolen during a carjacking incident.
She said the command suspects that the same group of perpetrators is responsible for both incidents.
She added that the criminals’ strategy involves waiting for individuals to step out of their vehicles to open gates, then emerging from hiding to execute their crimes.
Odutola said police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of all residents.
The command urges anyone with information related to these crimes to come forward and assist in the investigation.
