In a bid to enhance healthcare services across Ogun State, the Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board (OGPHECADEB) has initiated a comprehensive training program for the 25 recently recruited Nurses and Midwives.

The training, centered around the theme “Essential Newborn Care Course,” aims to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to provide high-quality care for newborns, post-labour, and delivery.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s health sector by providing essential human and material resources.

The 5-day capacity training, held in Abeokuta, brings together healthcare professionals from various parts of the state, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to capacity building and human development.

Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Board, explained that the training focuses on addressing potential newborn complications during different stages of pregnancy and delivery.

The curriculum covers topics such as prematurity, birth asphyxia, neonatal sepsis, and emergency response strategies.

President of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Ogun State Chapter, Dr. Olabisi Dedeke, and lead facilitator Mrs. Elizabeth Ikeobi, delivered encouraging messages to the participants, urging them to be diligent in their duties.

They emphasized the importance of not only providing quality healthcare but also actively engaging and educating community members on health-seeking services.

The initiative reflects the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible by ensuring that the state’s medical workforce is well-prepared and aligned with international standards.

This proactive approach aims to enhance the overall health and well-being of the local population by fostering a capable and informed healthcare workforce.
