The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has renewed his call on the state government to urgently establish a State Boundary Commission to resolve recurring inter-state land disputes, especially at volatile border communities such as Ode-Omi.
Elemide made the call during plenary on Thursday in response to a report by Hon. Lawal Adekunle, representing Ogun Waterside Constituency, who alleged encroachment into Ode-Omi by officials of the Lagos State Town Development Authority.
The Speaker described the reported invasion as a serious breach and called for swift government intervention to protect Ogun indigenes from “unwarranted attacks and encroachment by a neighbouring state.”
“This is a recurring challenge. The establishment of a State Boundary Commission will provide a clear legal and administrative framework to handle such disputes and prevent future tensions,” Elemide stated.
In another development, the Assembly has resolved a lingering land dispute involving the Leso Community Market in Odeda Local Government Area.
The resolution followed a petition by the Camp Area Community Development Committee accusing Prince Oluwajuwon Adex Adefaka and others of attempting to sabotage the commencement of the market.
Presenting the findings of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, Chairman Hon. Damilola Soneye said the land in question had been confirmed to fall under the purview of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture.
“The Committee recommends that all interested parties obtain the necessary approvals and documentation from the Ministry to avoid further conflict,” the report stated.
The House unanimously adopted the Committee’s report following a motion by Hon. Soneye, which was seconded by Hon. Samsideen Lawal.
The Assembly reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, lawful land use, and protecting the interests of local communities across the state.
