In a decisive legal victory, the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the triumph of Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, in the 18 March election for Ifo 1, State Constituency.

The ruling on Tuesday saw the dismissal of the petition filed by Okikiola Ogundele, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who contested the election.

The court not only affirmed Oluomo’s victory but also imposed a N500,000 fine on Ogundele, emphasizing the lack of merit in the challenger’s petition.

The penalty serves as a stern reminder of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

Oluomo, in response to the court’s decision, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, viewing it as a reaffirmation of the mandate bestowed upon him by the electorate.

From the initial ballot box results to the appellate court, Oluomo’s victory has withstood legal scrutiny, solidifying the legitimacy of his representation.

In a statement, Oluomo conveyed his gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering support and belief in his ability to serve.

He also commended the judiciary for its consistent dedication to justice, underscoring its crucial role in fostering a robust democratic system.

“I appreciate the trust my constituents have placed in me, and this judgement only strengthens my resolve to work tirelessly for their welfare and the betterment of our great State,” remarked Speaker Oluomo.

He pledged to use the momentum gained from the court’s decision to further contribute to the development and progress of both his constituency and the entire state.
