The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 432 illegal migrants in a major operation aimed at clamping down on illegal immigration and human trafficking.
The operation, which was carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, took place across the Ajuwon, Lambe, and Alagbole Akute areas of Ogun State on Monday.
According to the NIS, the arrested individuals, predominantly from Cameroon, Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), and Benin Republic, were found to be working for Qnet, an internet-based networking company with questionable business practices.
The operation, led by Ogun State Comptroller Aliu Muhammad Akadri, said many of the migrants, including young girls and vulnerable young men, were lured into the country under the false belief that they were engaging in a legitimate business opportunity offering financial freedom.
“Instead, they fell victim to fraud and human trafficking schemes, paying various sums of money for their invitation to Nigeria, unaware they were being exploited.
“The operation is part of a broader strategy to enhance security and address the growing issue of illegal migration in the Gateway State.
“In addition to the arrests in Ajuwon, Lambe, and Alagbole Akute, a related operation in Ijebu-Ode resulted in the arrest of over 120 individuals, including Nigerians and Chadians, who were also found to be in violation of immigration laws”.
Comptroller Akadri expressed his unwavering commitment to the continued fight against illegal immigration, human trafficking, and related crimes in Ogun State.
He reiterated that the NIS, in collaboration with other security agencies, will continue to intensify efforts to flush out illegal migrants and ensure the safety and security of the state.
