In a resolute move to tackle the pressing issue of drug abuse, with a focus on vulnerable groups like students, pregnant women, and public spaces, the Ogun State Government is gearing up to implement a series of policies and laws aimed at empowering healthcare practitioners in their battle against this menace

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, shared these ambitious plans during a meeting with officials from the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at her office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Dr. Coker underscored the importance of preventive programs and awareness campaigns targeting schools, expectant mothers, and motor parks

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Dr. Coker emphasized the need for comprehensive legislation to provide unwavering support for the fight against drug abuse

She also stressed the importance of engaging stakeholders and fostering cooperation to collectively address these issues

Dr. Coker outlined a holistic approach that includes education, rehabilitation, and enforcement as essential components in the battle against drug abuse

She assured NDLEA officials of the government’s unwavering commitment to this cause.

Commander Ibiba Odili, the Commandant of NDLEA in Ogun State, echoed these concerns in his presentation.

He highlighted the alarming rise of drug abuse in schools and motor parks, emphasizing the severe threat it poses to society’s well-being and overall socio-economic development.

Commander Odili stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies and communities.

Pharm Kayode Shotunde, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, emphasized the shared goal of eradicating drug abuse entirely in Ogun State and its surroundings.

While noting the existing collaboration between the state government and NDLEA, he pledged to intensify these efforts to achieve their noble objective.
