The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun State Chapter has urged the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, to rehabilitate the Moshood Kashimawo Abiola (MKO) Stadium Mainbowl.
The association made this call, through a communique, on Wednesday, after holding its monthly congress at the MKO Stadium, Secretariat, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The communique, which was signed by the association’s chairman and the secretary, Hakeem Akintunde and Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, respectively, stressed the need for the state government to rehabilitate the main bowl of the stadium, which the Nigeria Footbal Federation had banned from hosting any football event.
The Congress also called for the rehabilitation of the Mundo turf at the MKO Abiola stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, which is in a dilapidated state.
It read, “the Congress commends the Ogun State government for the rehabilitation of MKO Abiola Stadium but urged the government to rehabilitate the mainbowl of the stadium which the NFF had banned from hosting any football event.
“The Congress called for extension of the gesture to other stadia across the state. The Congress also called for the rehabilitation of the Mundo turf at the MKO Abiola stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta which is in dilapidated state.
“The Congress commends the government for keeping the promise made to the athletes that participated at the last National Sports Festival but, however, frowned at the poor commitment to the proposed hosting of the next Sports Festival.
“The Congress observes the state FA fixing date of its election. It however, called on the FA to ensure conduct of a free and fair election.
“The Congress observes the encouraging performance of Remo Stars FC in the NPFL and urged them to put more effort to qualify for the Super 6 where they will be able to qualify for a continental ticket.”
However, the congress assessed the performance of the three (3) Ogun State teams in the NNL, as it further commended the Stormers FC and Ijebu United for their performances so far.
The congress therefore urged Remo Stars FC to put more effort into qualifying for the Super 6, where they would be able to qualify for a continental ticket.
