A young Ogun State woman has recounted a horrifying ordeal in which her vagina was allegedly “melted” and blocked after using an unapproved fibroid medication, sparking outrage and police intervention as more victims come forward.
The victim, whose identity is withheld for security reasons, told PLATFORM TIMES that her life “changed forever” after using Tumorex, a vaginal insertion product sold to her by a self-styled fertility specialist identified as Mr. Williams Adetunji.
The drug, marketed as a natural expeller of fibroid tissue, reportedly caused severe internal injuries.
The survivor, who had been battling fibroid symptoms for years, described her decision to try the product as “the biggest mistake of my life.”
“I bought Enervate capsules and Tumorex on September 6. Days after inserting the first dose, my life changed forever… it blocked my vagina,” she said.
She said she initially joined a WhatsApp group created for users of the product, where a post showing “expelled fibroid tissue” encouraged her to try the treatment.
“From the first insertion, it became very hard to use the dildo he instructed me to use for coition. It was as if something was blocking the passage.
“When I complained, he told me to insert the second and third doses. I expelled some tissues, but my doctors couldn’t confirm it was fibroid,” she said.
By December, she discovered a “thick, cobweb-like flesh” inside her vagina. Doctors later informed her that the substance she inserted contained caustic soda, a highly corrosive chemical.
“They said the medication had melted my vagina. I ran several tests, and they confirmed I’m blocked inside and need surgery to open it again. The fibroids are still there,” she said.
After confronting the seller, the survivor learned of similar cases from other women, many of whom had undergone emergency or corrective surgeries.
“Some told me in private that they had undergone corrective surgeries. One woman’s bladder and rectum were damaged, and she had to be taken to a hospital in Kano. Mr. Williams did not deny this,” she recounted.
She revealed the trauma has taken a heavy toll on her life:
“I almost committed suicide in November. I lost my self-esteem, withdrew from people, and suffered severe hormone issues. I even lost my 15-month relationship.”
At a press conference held Monday in Abeokuta, counsel to the survivor, Mr. Hassan John Yakubu, publicly detailed what he described as “a matter of urgent criminal concern” that endangers women across the state.
Reading from the petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Yakubu said his client’s ordeal began in 2023 after she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids at Redwood Specialist Hospital.
Yakubu insisted that the offences committed by the suspect were numerous and grave.
He said, “These acts constitute clear violations of Nigerian criminal law, including unlicensed medical practice, distribution of unregistered and harmful drugs, causing grievous bodily harm, obtaining by false pretence, impersonation, and reckless endangerment of life.”
He described the situation as “a public safety emergency, posing ongoing danger to women across the State and beyond.
“We respectfully request that the Nigeria Police Force commence immediate criminal investigation, cause his arrest and prosecution, and prevent further distribution of these harmful substances,” the statement read.
The legal firm pledged to provide “medical reports, laboratory findings, witness statements, and contacts of affected individuals” to aid the investigation.
He disclosed that it has petitioned the Ogun State Police Command over the alleged crimes, describing the matter as “a public safety emergency.”
He revealed that the victim suffered “chemical burns, scarring, and reproductive complications” after using the unapproved products.
“Several victims have confided to our client that they underwent emergency or corrective surgeries resulting from the same product, including complications affecting the bladder and rectum,” Yakubu said.
He added that the suspect discouraged orthodox medical treatment and silenced women who raised concerns in the WhatsApp group.
Also speaking, human rights advocate and broadcaster Desmond Nwachukwu, who first escalated the matter, told journalists he had attempted to resolve the issue quietly until the suspect allegedly became hostile.
Nwachukwu said that the suspect has been arrested by the police.
According to him, “I was contacted by the survivor and made efforts to ensure the matter was not escalated, but due to the lack of cooperation of the suspect, who told me to go to hell, I contacted RRA & Associates to pursue justice.”
The Vice President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Yinka Folarin, pledged full support for the victim and urged others to come forward.
He said, “We will stand by the survivor to ensure justice is served. I call on other victims to be bold and come out to expose this atrocious act.”
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Adetunji.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said, “He is in our custody. Investigation has commenced, and complainants have been coming to identify him as the person who sold them the unauthorized drugs.
“Once the investigation is completed, he will be charged to court.”
