Okpebholo Confident of Victory Despite PDP’s Appeal Plans

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed unwavering confidence in his electoral victory despite plans by Asue Ighodalo and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the tribunal’s ruling at the Court of Appeal.

Earlier this week, the Edo State governorship election petition tribunal upheld Okpebholo’s mandate, dismissing Ighodalo’s petition.

In response, the governor, speaking at a celebration with supporters on Friday, affirmed his belief in a successful outcome at the higher courts.

“The opposition party is wasting money on court cases,” Okpebholo remarked, underscoring his conviction that the judiciary will uphold the will of the Edo electorate. He further asserted,

“They will never steal Edo people’s mandates given to me and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the September 21st governorship election.”

Okpebholo’s spokesperson, Fred Itua, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the clarity of the people’s choice in the 2024 election. “Edo people voted for the right person in Senator Monday Okpebholo,” Itua stated defiantly.

“We have defeated them at the tribunal, and they said they want to appeal the ruling. If they like, let them appeal and even get to the Supreme Court. We will defeat them.”

In the 2024 election, Okpebholo secured victory with 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo who garnered 247,274 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor’s optimism remains resolute as he prepares to defend his mandate at the appellate courts, anticipating a similar triumph at the Court of Appeal and potentially the Supreme Court.
