The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area, Dr George Oshiapi Egabor, over worsening cases of kidnappings and killings in his domain.

The directive was contained in a statement on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, who said the measure was part of efforts to restore peace and security to the troubled area.

According to the statement, the decision followed the recent killing of a palace chief, John Ikhamate, and the arrest of the monarch’s secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, in connection with the incident.

“Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate suspension of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State, over recent cases of incessant kidnapping and killings in his domain,” the statement read.

“Already, his secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, has been arrested by the relevant authorities, following a recent incident that led to the death of a palace chief, Late John Ikhamate. The suspension of the traditional ruler is indefinite.”

The state government did not disclose further details about the investigations but emphasized its commitment to tackling the rising insecurity in the region.
