A Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs to President Bola Tinubu, Tunde Rahman, has said that Dr. Doyin Okupe had initiated preparations for Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027 before his demise.

Rahman, representing President Tinubu at the Service of Songs in honour of the late Okupe, held at Trinity House, Victoria Island, Lagos, described Okupe’s proactive stance as a testament to his unwavering belief in Tinubu’s policies and vision for Nigeria.

He highlighted Okupe’s strategic foresight in assembling a dedicated team and setting up an office geared towards ensuring Tinubu’s success in the forthcoming electoral cycle.

“Dr. Doyin Okupe’s passing is not just a loss to President Tinubu but also to the entire nation and the political sphere.

He was not only an astute political strategist but also a communication expert who deeply understood the complexities of governance and national development,” Rahman remarked solemnly.

Despite their differing political affiliations, Rahman emphasized the mutual respect and admiration shared between Okupe and Tinubu.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also paid homage to Okupe, lauding him as a statesman whose influence transcended partisan lines.

He praised Okupe’s intellect and dedication to Nigeria’s democratic process, describing him as a gentleman whose impact on the political landscape spanned decades.

Prominent figures in attendance included 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Otunba Femi Pedro, and Chief Dele Momodu, among others from the political and religious spheres.

Dr. Okupe, originally from Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, passed away on March 7 in Lagos at the age of 72 following a prolonged illness.
