The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, Otileta VII, has commended the Ogun State chapter of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria for conducting a peaceful and orderly leadership transition, describing the development as a model for professional bodies in the state.
The monarch gave the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the newly inaugurated Ogun FIBAN executive, led by its Chairman, Chief Olalekan Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, at his palace in Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta.
Oba Matemilola praised the association for restoring unity among its members and urged the new leadership to consolidate on the gains, warning that broadcasters wield enormous influence in shaping public opinion.
“You hold the power of the tongue. Use it responsibly for peace, unity and development in our society,” the monarch said, assuring the delegation of the palace’s continued support and promising to integrate Ogun FIBAN into future palace programmes and public engagements.
Earlier, Shoyinka thanked the monarch for granting the delegation audience and described the Olowu as a symbol of peace and royal charisma in Owu Kingdom.
He said FIBAN members remained grassroots media practitioners and the “voice of the voiceless,” producing impactful content across radio, television and digital platforms nationwide.
The Ogun FIBAN chairman pledged the association’s readiness to partner the palace on programmes that would promote development in Owu Kingdom and Ogun State at large, while also seeking the palace’s support for the association’s activities.
He formally invited Oba Matemilola to the 2026 World Radio Day celebration organised by Ogun FIBAN, scheduled for February 13, where the monarch is expected to serve as Royal Father of the Day.
Members of the delegation included the General Secretary, Comrade Moses Okunlola; Financial Secretary, Comrade Oluwatoyin Asakpa; Publicity Secretary, Comrade Olusoji Akindiya; Welfare Officer, Comrade Betty Adejare; and others.
Palace chiefs present at the meeting included High Chiefs Olanrewaju Oseni-Obamaja, Olusola Adeoye-Osupori and Adebayo Aderemi Adelani-Oyega, as well as Chiefs Akinpelu Browne-Omotobase and Saheed Ademola Salako-Ajiroba.
The visit ended with the presentation of an honorary plaque from the FIBAN National Office to the Olowu in recognition of his leadership and support for media development.
