Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and traditional ruler of Ilu-Abo in Akure North, Ondo State, Oba Olu Falae, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Executive Committee of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

Falae’s emergence was announced at the group’s monthly meeting held on Tuesday at the Akure residence of its national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Jare Ajayi, said Falae’s appointment was a strategic move by the group’s leadership to reinvigorate its activities and reposition it in line with its founding ideals.

“Oba Falae’s appointment is meant to reinvigorate the organisation with a view to ensuring that the House of Oduduwa is back on track to project the Yoruba mandate,” Ajayi stated.

He described the new chairman as a seasoned administrator and elder statesman, noting that Falae’s vast experience in public service, including his tenure as SGF, would serve the group well.

The Afenifere leadership also reiterated its longstanding demand for the restructuring of Nigeria, stressing that it remains the most effective path to resolving the country’s deepening security and governance challenges.

“We are therefore calling on the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to set the machinery in motion to restructure the country as a matter of urgency,” Ajayi said.

In his remarks, Oba Falae expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by Pa Fasoranti and pledged to unite all factions within the organisation.

“By the grace of God and with the support of Afenifere and the Yoruba nation, we’ll succeed in bringing the other groups, everybody together,” Falae said. “I intend to do all I can to bring all factions of Afenifere together in Papa’s lifetime.”

Also speaking at the meeting, the National Organising Secretary, Apagun Kole Omololu, expressed optimism that the new leadership would usher in renewed cohesion within the group and advance the Yoruba agenda.

Falae’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Afenifere, as the group seeks to consolidate its influence and forge a united front on issues affecting the South-West and the nation at large.
