Contrary to recent media reports circulating Monday night, the Oyo State Government has vehemently denied claims of the demise of the revered Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, aged 89.

Addressing the speculations, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatunbosun, affirmed that Oba Olakulehin is indeed alive and in good health. “Yes. Olubadan is alive, hale and hearty,” stated Olatunbosun.

He further reassured the public, citing direct communication with Prince Olaseke Owolabi Olakulehin, a representative of the royal family at the coronation committee.

Additionally, Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, debunked the swirling rumors in a conversation with our correspondent. “By the time I left the palace around 8 pm, there was nothing of such incident,” Ayoade clarified.

“The Olubadan just finished eating amala. He is hale and healthy. It is just a rumour. There is nothing of such,” he reiterated firmly.

Furthermore, Ayoade dismissed claims of the traditional ruler being flown out of Ibadan for medical attention, asserting, “Baba is still in Ibadan. He was not flown anywhere. He is doing very fine.”

Oba Olakulehin, who recently marked a significant milestone by receiving the staff of office from State Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, is set to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 5.

The Oyo State Government urges the public to disregard the false information and remain assured of the Olubadan’s continued well-being.
