The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin 1), on Monday, performed his first official duty as the newly installed traditional ruler by crowning the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, as the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The historic event took place at the newly constructed Olubadan palace in Oke Aremo, situated within the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, who presented the staff of office and certificate to Oba Ladoja on behalf of the state government.

The occasion, which also saw the presence of members of the Olubadan-in-Council, family heads, political figures, and other well-wishers, marked a significant moment in Ibadan’s traditional hierarchy.

Oba Olakulehin, while addressing the gathering, expressed his delight at the renewed unity among the Ibadan kingmakers, emphasizing that this harmony would foster peace, progress, and development within the community.

“With the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as a beaded crown Oba, my reign is starting on a very harmonious note to the benefit of Ibadanland as all kingmakers are now on the same page,” the Olubadan stated.

The Acting Governor, in his remarks, congratulated the people of Ibadan on this notable development and reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to bolstering the traditional institution to a level of excellence that would serve as a model for the entire nation.

Oba Ladoja, in his acceptance speech, highlighted the inherent unity among the people of Ibadan, acknowledging that any misunderstandings that may arise within the community are typically resolved internally.

“They said we should do it the way it is supposed to be done. Ibadan is capable of doing its own thing. We have ways of doing our things. Once we enter the inner chamber, you must realize that things will change. All the problems are as a result of misunderstanding,” Oba Ladoja noted.
