The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has launched fresh allegations against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, claiming the monarch conspired with his former Canadian wife to assassinate him.
In a video posted on his official Facebook page, Emperor Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi Telu I, on Tuesday, the Iwo monarch accused Ooni of orchestrating a plot to silence him because of his role in the enthronement of the current Ooni of Ife years ago.
“People hear me talking about Ooni Adeyeye. What you don’t know, I will tell you today. I helped Ooni Adeyeye. But because he is holding on to the Orisas (deities), and God has placed me above all the Orisas, he doesn’t want me to reveal my role in his becoming Ooni,” Oluwo said.
According to him, Ooni allegedly “packaged” a Canadian woman—who later became his wife—as part of a setup.
“There was a woman that was packaged for me. I didn’t know her before; she came from Canada. They were setting me up with videos and many things.
“This supposed wife poisoned me twice. They even set up assassination attempts but they failed,” he alleged.
The traditional ruler, whose marriage to the Canadian woman produced a child, further cast doubt on the paternity of the child. “I have to confirm that through DNA because I don’t even know if the child is mine,” he declared.
Oluwo also alleged that Ooni was seen with the woman after he sent her away. “After I found out the secret and kicked her out of my house, Ooni Adeyeye rented an apartment for her and the child. Ask him what she was doing with him in a hotel,” he claimed without mentioning the hotel.
The outspoken monarch insisted that no one could kill him, not even the revered Yoruba deities.
“They cannot kill me. Sango cannot kill me because he’s my father. Ogun cannot kill me either. They are not criminals; they don’t kill their children. Only Almighty God decides when someone dies,” he said.
Oluwo also dismissed insinuations that Ooni could suspend him as a paramount ruler. “They said Ooni can suspend me. Can Ooni suspend me as a paramount ruler?
“A paramount ruler cannot suspend another paramount ruler. Even if they place all of us in order in Osun State, it is only because they cannot put all of us in the first position,” he maintained.
As of press time, the Ooni had not responded to the weighty allegations.
