Tragedy struck in Ondo State as the police command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a landlord and two accomplices over the abduction, rape, and gruesome murder of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
The suspects, including the landlord identified as Oladele Femi, allegedly connived to kidnap and kill the victims—25-year-old Abah John Friday and his 19-year-old female friend, Okah Andrel Eloho.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who briefed journalists in Akure, described the killings as “brutal and senseless,” revealing that the victims were abducted on June 20, 2025.
According to the police chief, the investigation commenced after a legal petition was filed by G.O. Omoedu & Co. on behalf of Emmanuel Peter, the elder brother of one of the victims.
Detectives from the anti-kidnapping unit swung into action, deploying forensic tracking to trace a missing iPhone 14 Pro Max belonging to one of the victims.
The device led investigators to Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, where it was recovered from a 38-year-old man, Abdul Mohammed Mubarak. Mubarak confessed to buying the phone from another suspect, Ojo Michael, who was later arrested in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
A Lexus RX 350 vehicle belonging to the deceased was also recovered during the operation.
During interrogation, Michael reportedly confessed to actively participating in the robbery, abduction, and eventual murder of the students.
He further disclosed that the landlord, Oladele Femi, masterminded the entire crime and recruited him alongside another suspect identified simply as Kola, who is still on the run.
In a chilling revelation, the police said Michael admitted to raping the female victim before killing both her and Friday to prevent any possibility of exposure.
“Investigations also revealed that while the victims were held captive, a total of N800,000 was transferred from Mr. Friday’s account,” the CP stated.
He added that the suspects disposed of the bodies in separate locations between Agbado and Ode-Ekiti.
Acting on information obtained during interrogation, police operatives recovered the remains of Ms Eloho in a bush near Ode-Ekiti. Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
“The remains of the male victim are believed to have been dumped in a river by the fleeing suspect. Efforts are ongoing to recover the body,” Lawal added.
“This case stands as a tragic reminder of the evil that betrayal and greed can unleash.
“These young students were full of promise, only to be snatched away in cold blood by those they knew and trusted,” the police chief lamented.
The Ondo State Police Command assured the public that justice will be pursued to its logical end, as efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect continue.
