A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday ordered the remand of a 42-year-old pastor, Samson Ajayi, for allegedly defiling his 17-year-old daughter for four years.
Ajayi, a father of five, was arraigned on two counts bordering on rape and defilement. He was alleged to have consistently abused his daughter between March 2021 and August 2025 in his home at the Igoba area of Akure.
The Prosecutor, Supol Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the offences contravened Sections 3 (a, b, c) and 25 of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, 2021.
According to police investigation, Ajayi’s wife uncovered the abuse after she noticed their matrimonial bed was disarranged.
Upon questioning, the teenager allegedly confessed to being repeatedly violated by her father, prompting her mother to report to the police. The cleric was subsequently arrested at a prayer mountain.
In court, Ajayi openly admitted to the allegations but claimed he was under the influence of what he described as a “generational curse.”
“I eventually did it, but I didn’t know what came over me. My father also did it to my sister. I believe it is a generational curse meant to disgrace me,” he said while in the dock.
His lawyer, Kehinde Osadugba, pleaded with the court to consider an out-of-court settlement, saying the victim’s mother had forgiven him because of his role as the family’s breadwinner.
However, Magistrate Taiwo Lebi dismissed the request, stressing that Ajayi’s confession and the gravity of the allegations provided sufficient grounds for his remand.
Lebi ordered the defendant’s remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned till November 20, 2025, for review.
