The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has led a delegation of prominent South-West monarchs to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

The two-day visit, described as a courtesy call, offered a platform for meaningful discussions on national unity and development.

In a statement issued by the Ooni’s office, the monarch expressed gratitude for Buhari’s warm reception and commended the former leader’s renewed vitality post-presidency.

“He’s 30 years younger right now,” the Ooni remarked, adding, “When you see him, you will be completely shocked at how relaxed and vibrant he is, radiating good spirits.

He looks remarkably younger than his age, and God has truly blessed him with renewed good health.”

The Ooni emphasized the primary purpose of the visit, stating that it was essential to check on Buhari’s well-being and strengthen relationships with Nigeria’s past and present leaders.

“Maintaining strong connections with our leaders is crucial for fostering a unified nation capable of growth and prosperity for all citizens,” he said.

During the visit, Buhari hosted the Ooni and his entourage, which included the Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adewole; the Oore of Otun Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo; and the Alara of Ilara Epe, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo.

The delegation also paid homage to the Emir of Daura.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a privilege to engage with the revered monarchs.

“It’s always a privilege to receive Kabiyesi and his esteemed entourage of kings. Let us continue to pray for the unity of our country and hold these leaders in our thoughts,” Buhari said.

The former president reaffirmed his unwavering belief in Nigeria’s future, highlighting the importance of dialogue and collaboration among traditional rulers and political leaders in navigating the nation’s challenges.

The statement from the Ooni’s office described the visit as more than a casual encounter, labeling it a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at fostering dialogue among Nigeria’s leaders.
