The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has expressed its deep shock over the arrest of a 200-level student, Ayomide Adeleye, from the Department of Philosophy, who is allegedly involved in a murder case.
In an official statement released by the institution on Fridayand signed by Wale Balogun, Ph.D, for Head Corporate Affairs, the university management condemned the criminal act and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Miss Christianah Idowu, a 300-Level student of Pure and Applied Botany at the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), was abducted in Lagos and subsequently killed in what the university described as a senseless act of violence that has left the entire community heartbroken.
According to the statement, the university is disturbed by the circumstances surrounding Adeleye’s alleged involvement in the crime.
The institution, known for its peaceful and serene academic environment, has maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of violence or criminal activity.
“As an institution that has a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and criminal behaviour, the University is deeply concerned about this serious allegation and condemns it in all its entirety,” the statement reads.
The university reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order, affirming that criminal acts do not reflect the values of the institution.
OOU prides itself on fostering a cult-free, peaceful atmosphere that enables academic excellence among its students.
However, due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, the university management refrained from commenting further on the details of the case, urging the public to allow law enforcement agencies to complete their investigations and for the courts to handle the case.
“The University Management will not make further comments on the ongoing investigation as it is a matter for the police and the courts of justice.
“Everyone is enjoined to respect the ongoing investigation and allow the justice system to run its course,” the statement continued.
The statement further read that, the Vice-Chancellor of OOU, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, expressed heartfelt sympathy to the family of the victim.
The Vice-Chancellor also extended condolences to the university community at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), where the victim was reportedly a student.
“Prof. Ayodeji Agboola wishes to extend the university’s heartfelt condolences to the victim’s bereaved family and prays for God to grant them the fortitude to bear the heavy loss.
He also extends his condolences to the entire University community, especially the students’ populace of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB),” the statement concluded.
