OOU Student Arrested For Allegedly Stealing, Selling High-End Phones

A 17-year-old Political Science student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Sobando Semilore, has been arrested for allegedly stealing and attempting to sell high-end smartphones.

The suspect was apprehended on December 17, 2024, by a surveillance anti-crime patrol team led by Inspector Morufu Olajide of the Ago-Iwoye police division.

According to a police statement, Semilore was caught in possession of a Samsung S21 valued at ₦350,000 and an iPhone 14 Pro Max worth ₦650,000. The devices were said to belong to one Muktapha Adenugba.

The police disclosed that Semilore, a first-year student residing in Danmark Hall, was nabbed at Pepsi Junction while allegedly negotiating the sale of the stolen items.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to stealing the phones at a poolside in Garden, a popular relaxation spot in Ago-Iwoye.

The police statement read in part, “The suspect was arrested while he was negotiating a sale at Pepsi Junction. He admitted to stealing the phones from a poolside in Garden, a popular relaxation spot.

“The phones have been recovered, and the owner has been notified. The case is under investigation, and further updates will be provided.”

The recovered phones have been returned to the rightful owner, while investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect is connected to other theft cases in the area.

Authorities have warned students and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
