OPINION : Tinubu’s Government: All Politics, No Governance

The President Bola Tinubu-led administration tends to be more focused on politics than governance.

In my humble view, I think from what is obvious, the present administration only has “starting but lacks finishing”, and nobody judges you by what you start but by what you finish.

The Supreme Court judgment on local government financial autonomy was delivered on 11th day of July, 2024 in favor of the 774 local government councils.

However, nothing has been done to enforce the said judgment till date. This is quite unfortunate and highly ridiculous of the entire judicial system in Nigeria.

Security of lives and properties which the law lists as the top obligation of the government has been openly removed from the list without any apology. Nigerians are now being sent to their graves like chickens and fowls. This is quite shameful.

The expression health is wealth has no application in Nigeria again. The health care providers have no confidence and trust in Nigerian government anymore.

The easiest way to die now is to visit Nigerian hospital, especially the so-called general hospital during illness.

As laudable as the provisions of the National Health Act, 2014 are, they only remain on paper. What is contained in the law is totally different from what you see in the hospitals. The health care providers prefer to “japa” than to stay in Nigeria.

The offences such as stealing armed robbery, arsons, affray etc are being committed geometrically due to sufficient hunger issue in Nigeria.

A hungry man is an angry man. The prices of food commodities are not affordable making the downtrodden behave like mad people. Nigerians get angry upon slightest provocation. That is the effect of terrible and persistent hunger.

Judiciary which used to be the last hope for every common man on the street is now being viewed with skepticism. People now seek justice in self-help, which is too bad.

Nigeria youth prefer to become tiktokers than becoming professors. They tell you “who school help”. The recent JAMB result is a clear manifestation of the outright decay and lost of interest in education among the youth in Nigeria.

I want to sincerely advise the President to stop pursuing shadow at the expense of substance. The shinning sun is still enough to dry cloths. Only God knows who will be alive to witness 2027. The president to govern, not rule.
