There was mild drama at the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Monday, after former Edo State Governor and current Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, allegedly disrupted airport operations following a missed flight to Abuja.
The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of the day, reportedly began when Senator Oshiomhole arrived at the airport around 6:20 am for Air Peace Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart at 6:30 am.
Despite arriving after the airline had closed boarding, the lawmaker allegedly became unruly when informed that the flight had left as scheduled.
Eyewitnesses and footage obtained by PLATFORM TIMES show the senator obstructing the terminal’s entrance, preventing other passengers from gaining access to the departure hall.
He was seen in the company of his security aides, who were also involved in the blockade.
In a statement released by the airline titled “Unruly Conduct by Prominent Politician at Lagos Airport: Air Peace Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Violence,” the airline condemned the senator’s actions, accusing him of physically assaulting staff and obstructing flight operations.
The airline stated, “Upon being informed of the missed flight, the politician resorted to violence, physically assaulting our staff and forcefully barricading the terminal’s entrance.
He went as far as sealing the entry gate and manning the access point, effectively obstructing other passengers from gaining entry into the terminal.”
Air Peace confirmed that the disruption significantly affected multiple operations and passenger movement. However, the airline said it quickly activated a contingency plan to re-route affected travelers through an alternate terminal to prevent further delays.
“We are deeply saddened that such a high-profile figure displayed conduct so unbecoming and disruptive,” the airline added. “Air Peace maintains a zero-tolerance stance on violence or any form of aggression against our staff and passengers.”
A fellow passenger corroborated the incident in a viral social media post, writing: “Adams Oshiomhole caused serious problems at MM1 this morning.
He came late for his flight, and after the plane took off, he and his security team blocked the departure gate, insisting no one else should fly until they sorted him out.”
Efforts to reach Senator Oshiomhole’s media aide for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has sparked public backlash, with many Nigerians on social media criticising what they describe as the sense of entitlement and disregard for protocol often exhibited by public officials
