In response to the recent easing of tensions following communal clashes, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced a reduction in the daily curfew hours imposed on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities.

Effective immediately, the curfew, previously set at 17 hours, will now be enforced for 12 hours daily.

This decision was conveyed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who highlighted the improving situation in the affected areas.

Governor Adeleke expressed optimism about the gradual return to peace, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of traditional rulers and community members in achieving this milestone.

“I am pleased to announce the relaxation of the curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities,” Governor Adeleke stated.

“The reduced curfew hours will facilitate normalcy and allow students preparing for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations to proceed without disruption.”

Despite the curfew adjustment, Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of maintaining vigilance against any form of lawlessness.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure peace and security in the region.

Furthermore, Governor Adeleke urged the newly expanded peace committee to expedite their efforts in proposing sustainable solutions to the longstanding communal disputes.

He called on all stakeholders, including residents and diaspora members, to cooperate actively in achieving lasting peace across the affected communities.

The Governor warned that stringent legal measures would be applied to anyone or group found instigating or exacerbating the crisis, stressing the resolve of his administration to bring an end to the recurring conflicts.

As efforts towards reconciliation and peacebuilding continue, Governor Adeleke affirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to resolving the underlying issues causing communal tensions in Osun State.
