In a recent budget analysis session in Osogbo, Professor Ademola Adeleke, the Commissioner for Budget, addressed concerns regarding the allocation of N702 million for meals and entertainment in the offices of the governor and secretary to the government in 2024.
Adeleke debunked rumors suggesting an inflated N11 billion allocation, clarifying that the total recurrent expenditure for the Office of the Governor, including various agencies such as the deputy governor’s office, chief of staff’s office, and bureaus, amounted to N8 billion.
Of this, only N600 million was earmarked for meals and entertainment.
Similarly, he highlighted that the Office of the Secretary to the State Government received a total recurrent allocation of about N3 billion, with N102 million designated for meals and entertainment.
“The claim of N11 billion for meals and entertainment is a blatant lie.
The office of the governor encompasses seven different agencies, and the total recurrent expenditure is N8 billion, with only N600 million allocated for meals and entertainment.
The N11 billion figure is a sum of the separate allocations for the governor’s office and the SSG’s office,” Adeleke clarified.
Meanwhile, Adeleke shared additional details about the 2024 budget, revealing that the education sector received N38.9 billion (14.21%), the infrastructure sector obtained N57.2 billion (20.89%), and the human capital development sector was allocated N39.2 billion (14.34%) out of the total budget of 273.9 billion.
In a prior report by SaharaReporters in December 2023, it was disclosed that N6 billion had been spent on running the “Office of the Governor” in three months, a figure separate from the N209 million allocated for personal expenditure in the governor’s office during the same period.
