The Ogun State chapter of the Accord Party has raised alarm over what it described as the “worsening state” of roads across the state, urging Governor Dapo Abiodun to take immediate action to rescue residents from hardship and economic stagnation.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the party’s state chairman, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, Accord lamented that citizens across the state have been groaning under the weight of bad roads which have crippled transportation, ruined businesses, and endangered lives.
Rotimi said social media has recently been flooded with videos and images showing the deplorable conditions of internal roads from Sagamu to Ifo, Owode-Yewa to Ota, Ijebu-Ode to Ayetoro, and even parts of Abeokuta, the state capital.
“The people of Ogun State are crying. Our roads are bad, our lives are being endangered, and our businesses are dying,” the Accord chairman said.
Speaking during a visit to the Ayobo–Itele border axis between Ogun and Lagos States on Friday, November 7, 2025, Rotimi described the situation as “an eyesore and a humanitarian concern.”
He said residents of the area now wade through mud and stagnant water daily, with vehicles frequently breaking down on the impassable route.
“It is truly saddening to see hardworking citizens living amidst such neglect,” he said. “At this point, one begins to wonder if these areas are still part of Ogun State. Are these people not taxpayers? Does the government not generate revenue from them?”
Rotimi warned that residents must not allow themselves to be “bewitched” into rewarding poor governance in future elections, saying:
“No right-thinking citizen should endorse the very administration that abandoned them to suffer in silence.
The Accord chairman warned that the poor condition of roads across Ogun State poses grave economic and health risks.
He noted that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were already suffering from rising logistics costs, difficulty in moving goods, and vehicle damage.
“Transport fares are climbing daily because vehicle owners can barely maintain their cars. The ripple effect is that the cost of goods and services keeps rising beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen,” Rotimi stated.
He also warned that the health implications of the bad roads were “dire,” as open drains, stagnant floodwater, and dust could lead to outbreaks of waterborne and respiratory diseases.
According to the chairman, among the worst-hit and most strategic roads demanding urgent government attention, the statement listed the following: Ayobo–Itele–Ota Road (Lagos border area): Ayetoro–Imeko Road ; Owode–Idi-Iroko–Ota Axis ; Sango–Oju Ore–Ilogbo–Atan Road ;Ijoko–Agbado–Akute–Denro Axis ; Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway internal link roads ; Lafenwa–Ayetoro Road (Abeokuta) ; Mowe–Ofada–Owode Road and Ijebu-Igbo–Ago-Iwoye–Oru Road
Rotimi said the rehabilitation of these roads would not only ease movement but also revive the local economy and restore public confidence in governance.
The Accord Party urged Governor Abiodun to match words with action by prioritizing road rehabilitation across the state, noting that continued neglect could lead to further economic decay and social unrest.
“We are not calling for political attention,” Rotimi concluded. “We are calling for human attention. The people of Ogun State deserve better roads, better living conditions, and better governance. Let this administration rise to the occasion and bring succour to our communities.”
He further appealed to the state government to deploy the increased FAAC allocations and internally generated revenue toward infrastructure that directly benefits the masses.
