The Chairman of Chisco Group, emphasized the crucial role of peace in promoting the prosperity of Igbo people and their businesses across the world.
Anyaegbu, popularly known as “Chisco,” stated this in preparation for his forthcoming investiture as Mayor Ndi Igbo.
Anyaegbu said peaceful coexistence remains the primary objective for Ndi Igbo everywhere, including Lagos, where he has lived and conducted business for over five decades.
Chisco made these remarks on Monday following a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he extended a formal invitation to the elder statesman to attend his investiture on December 16, 2024, in Lagos.
The visit, he noted, was part of efforts to unify Igbo people and strengthen bonds between ethnic communities in Lagos and beyond.
Reflecting on his experience in Lagos, Chisco underscored the shared interests between the Igbo and other Nigerian communities, particularly the Yoruba people.
“I have stayed for about 54 years in Lagos, and I believe that what joins the Igbo and Lagosians—or any other tribe—is greater than what divides us,” he said.
“We stand to gain nothing from discord but everything from unity, which is essential for progress and development.”
Highlighting his new role, Anyaegbu pledged to foster peace wherever Igbo communities are found globally.
“We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that peace is achieved not only in Lagos but in all areas where our brothers and sisters reside worldwide,” he added.
Anyaegbu’s delegation included Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, the President of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo and head of the Mayor Ndi Igbo contact and mobilisation committee, alongside Hon. Chinweizu Madubuike, Secretary of Mayor Ndi Igbo.
They described the planned investiture as a significant step towards fortifying relationships between the Igbo people and other Nigerian communities, fostering mutual respect, and contributing to national unity.
The visit to Obasanjo, according to a statement released by Kehinde Akinyemi, Special Assistant on Media to the former president, was part of broader consultations with key figures as the Igbo community prepares for the December event.
