More than 2,000 secondary school students have enrolled in the 2025 holiday coaching programme organised by the Tola Adebajo Foundation (TAF), as community stakeholders renewed calls for stronger partnerships to boost Nigeria’s education sector.
The initiative, which kicked off this week at St. James’ Anglican Primary School, Atikori, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, has recorded its highest turnout since inception, representing a 35 per cent increase compared to last year.
Coordinator of the project, Hon. Femi Oluyemi, said the rising participation underscored the growing impact of the programme, which was introduced three years ago to provide academic support and keep students engaged during the long vacation.
Oluyemi urged Nigerians to complement government efforts in reforming education, stressing that private and community-driven projects were essential to bridging gaps and ensuring no child was left behind.
“Education should not be left solely in the hands of government. Partnerships with individuals, foundations, and well-meaning organisations can provide resources, close existing gaps, and empower children to pursue excellence,” he said.
The four-week coaching programme focuses on core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, and Science, while also incorporating extracurricular activities including sports, cultural displays, and creative writing.
Oluyemi attributed the surge in attendance to the positive results of previous editions and increased awareness within Ijebu Igbo and neighbouring communities.
He also commended the volunteer teachers and facilitators—drawn from within and outside the town—for their dedication to the students’ growth.
“Education remains a major tool for empowerment, and our foundation is committed to making a lasting impact on young people,” he added.
The programme will end with an evaluation exercise and a closing ceremony, where outstanding students will be recognised for their performance and participation.
