The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has urged members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the FCT to use the scheme to spearhead development-oriented programmes that will complement the efforts of government at all levels.
The Minister stated this during the Oath taking and official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja on Friday.
The Minister who was represented by the Mandate Secretary, Youth and Sports Development Secretariat and Chairman NYSC FCT Governing Board, Hon. Lawal Kolo Geidam, reminded the corps members of the significance of the Oath.

“Let me also remind you of the significance Of the oath of allegiance that you have sworn to. It is a solemn pledge to give your all in the service of our dear country, Nigeria. And it is expected that through your comportment and activities, you will provide mentorship to our youths and spearhead development-oriented programmes which will complement the efforts of government at all levels in the FCT.”
Declaring open the orientation course, she said, “I want to assure you that your security in the FCT is also top priority of the government as several security agencies have been deployed to the camp to ensure smooth process. I however charge you to also assist in this regard by being law abiding citizens.”
She advised the corps members to be security conscious at all time, and comply diligently with the camp rules and regulations.
On his part, FCT Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Samson Ateli, while delivering his welcome address, announced that at the close of the registration, a total number of 5,090 corps members were duly registered for the Orientation Course, comprising of 2,169 males and 2,921 females respectively.
He charged the corps members to be agents of positive change within and outside the camp.
“While commending your readiness to serve your fatherland, I wish to remind you that the Orientation Camp is regimented with different activities lined up for your participation which are designed to install discipline, physical fitness, as well as entrepreneurial training for self-reliance. It is on this premise therefore, i urged you to avail to take the opportunities provided by the scheme serious.”
The Coordinator also tasked the corps members to equip themselves with the necessary skills available for sustainable job creation.
