The Oyo State House Of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, is set to suspend 11 lawmakers for alleged insubordination.
The lawmakers are accused of opposing the House leadership and disregarding directives from Governor Seyi Makinde.
Sources within the Assembly disclosed that the decision, backed by Governor Makinde, targets lawmakers primarily serving their first terms.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the lawmakers have been labeled as rebels due to their confrontational stance against the House leadership.
The lawmakers facing suspension include: Olorunpoto Oluwafemi Cephas (Oyo East/Oyo West constituency), Olufunke Comforter (Ibadan North constituency I), Abiodun Babalola (Ibadan Northeast constituency I), Waheed Akintayo (Oluyole constituency), Bisi Oluranti Micheal (Ogbomoso North), Ibraheem Shittu (Saki West), Abdulazeez Musbau (Kajola constituency), Jimoh Lukman (Oorelope constituency), Ayinde Waliu (Irepo/Olorunsogo constituency), Olajide Operinde (Afijio constituency), and Dauda Olalere (Ibadan North West)
The affected lawmakers have leveled serious accusations against Speaker Ogundoyin, claiming he mismanaged Sallah funds, which were supposed to be disbursed by the governor.
Additionally, the petitioners allege that Ogundoyin procured official cars in a non-transparent manner.
According to their claims, instead of acquiring the authorized 2023 model vehicles from recognized dealers like Elizade Motors, Ogundoyin opted for 2022 models from unauthorized sources.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the controversy over the Sallah funds is particularly contentious.
The lawmakers assert that the funds were mishandled, leading to their feelings of marginalization and unfair treatment.
However, it has been clarified that Governor Makinde did not release any Sallah funds to the House of Assembly, contradicting the lawmakers’ claims.
Confirming the planned suspension, Oyetunji Oyekunle, the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media, stated that the House would address the issue in a session on Thursday.
Oyekunle emphasized that the suspension is necessary to maintain order and discipline within the Assembly.
