Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has paid glowing tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a man of unwavering integrity whose personal and public life embodied discipline, honesty, and patriotism.
Pantami, who spoke at Buhari’s Daura residence in Katsina State on Tuesday, recalled over two decades of close personal and professional relationship with the deceased leader, noting that their bond remained intact until Buhari’s final moments.
“I had a close relationship with him before his passing. Even when he was president, I often visited his house and met him in his living room. That was how close we were,” Pantami said solemnly, while joining family and associates to receive Buhari’s body ahead of burial preparations.
He expressed deep admiration for the late president’s values, stating: “Over the years, I learned many valuable lessons from him—discipline, honesty, and integrity. He was a deeply patriotic citizen. I can testify, even before God, that he was a man of integrity.”
Pantami also commended the late president’s family, particularly his children, for their respect, humility, and disciplined upbringing. “His children respect us and treat us like their elder brothers. They are very disciplined, and now it is our duty to ensure we look after them,” he added.
As dignitaries gathered in Daura for Buhari’s final rites, the former minister’s heartfelt remarks added to the outpouring of tributes across Nigeria and beyond, reflecting the former president’s enduring influence and moral standing.
Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, died in London and is scheduled for burial in his hometown of Daura in accordance with Islamic rites. His body is expected to arrive later Tuesday, with President Bola Tinubu and other top government officials expected at the ceremony.
