Ogun State witnessed partial compliance with the two-day warning industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday, as a diverse range of workers reported for duty at various institutions.
At some federal institutions, including the Federal Medical Center in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, only medical doctors and nurses were present to fulfill their responsibilities, with other workers who are members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) notably absent. The State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, remained locked during the strike.
However, the strike achieved full compliance at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), where members of the Non-Academics Staff Union (NASU) effectively halted university operations, affecting both lecturers and students.
In the commercial banking sector, all workers adhered to the NLC’s directive to abstain from work.
A few banks, such as Zenith Bank, continued to provide limited services to customers.
Inside sources revealed that some money deposit banks had their staff on standby, ready to respond to any changes in the situation.
Conversely, the State Secretariat Complex in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, presented a different scenario as civil servants chose to disregard the NLC’s directive and reported for work as usual.
Additionally, the motor transport unions, affiliated with the Trade Union Congress (TUC), refrained from participating in the warning strike.
Commercial drivers, tricycle riders, and motorcycle taxi operators continued their transportation services across the state without disruption.
This varying level of compliance highlights the diverse response to the NLC’s call for industrial action in Ogun State.
