In a move aimed at further enhancing its mission of fostering strong community relations and promoting human rights, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) National Headquarters has announced the appointment of two distinguished figures to key positions within the organization.
The appointments, approved by the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, were officially made public through a statement issued on Thursday, September 19, 2024, by Amb. Comrade Kunle Sodipo, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the National Chairman.
The statement conveyed the appointment of Comrade Folarin Olayinka, the Executive Director of the Human Rights and Grassroots Development Society (HRGDS), as the Consultant on Human Rights and International Affairs to the National PCRC.
Additionally, Prince Joseph Ogochukwu Ejimbe JP was named the PCRC National Liaison Officer to Igbo Communities in the North Central.
The PCRC leadership expressed optimism that the appointees, with their vast experience and proven track records, would play pivotal roles in strengthening the organization’s profile both within Nigeria and internationally.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Comrade Olayinka, a prominent human rights advocate, is no stranger to the landscape of human rights advocacy in Nigeria.
Currently serving as the National Vice President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Olayinka has an extensive background that includes service on the Ogun State Judicial Panel on Police Brutalities and Human Rights Violations by Security Agencies, following the EndSARS protests.
He is also a certified arbitrator and trainer with over two decades of experience in promoting human rights at grassroots and national levels.
Olayinka’s HRGDS, an organization with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) special consultative status, has been actively involved in defending human rights and advocating for grassroots development across Nigeria.
In a statement accepting his new role with the PCRC, Olayinka emphasized his commitment to advancing human rights in partnership with law enforcement agencies.
“I am thrilled to bring my expertise and experience to advance the cause of humanity through this esteemed platform,” he remarked.
Olayinka also highlighted the importance of creating a symbiotic relationship between the PCRC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the wider community, stating that his work would align with international human rights principles, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. “I am committed to promoting a culture of human rights and fostering a working partnership that is mutually beneficial to all stakeholders,” he added.
The appointment of Prince Joseph Ogochukwu Ejimbe JP as PCRC National Liaison Officer to Igbo Communities in the North Central is expected to bolster the committee’s reach and impact among ethnic communities in that region.
Ejimbe’s appointment underscores the PCRC’s efforts to ensure greater inclusion and representation of diverse communities in its initiatives aimed at fostering peace and security through police-community cooperation.
The new appointments, which take immediate effect, are part of the PCRC’s broader strategy to strengthen its role as a mediator between the Nigerian Police Force and the general public, particularly in areas where tension between law enforcement and communities has been high.
Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the National Chairman of the PCRC, in a brief statement, expressed his confidence in the abilities of the appointees, noting that their diverse experiences and dedication to human rights and community development would be invaluable assets to the PCRC.
