Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, on Saturday explained that embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagum, was suspended and not sacked.

Melaye said PDP opted to suspend Damagum in compliance with a court order.

Posting on X, the former lawmaker said the opposition party is law abiding, hence opted to suspend Damagum.

He assured that Damagum’s suspension would resolve the PDP’s crisis.

Melaye wrote: “In compliance with the court order, not to sack Damagun, he has been suspended and not sacked. We have obeyed the court order because PDP is a law-abiding party.

“The suspension will aid in the resolution of the crisis in our party. Senator Dino Melaye.”

A factional of PDP’s National Working Committee, NWC, suspended Damagum alongside the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.

However, the Abuja Federal High Court restrained the National Executive Committee (NEC) and PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum as the party’s acting national chairman.

The court ordered that no other person must be recognized as PDP national chairman other than Damagum until the national convention of the party is scheduled for December next year.
