The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has amassed a total of N175 million through the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to five aspirants vying for the coveted position in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets September 21, 2024, as the date for the state governorship election, the PDP outlined a schedule of activities culminating in the governorship candidate’s emergence during a congress on February 22, 2024.
Commencing the process, the PDP, on Wednesday in Abuja, initiated the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to party members aspiring to the Edo governorship seat.
The cost of the expression of interest form stands at N5 million, while the nomination form is priced at N30 million, resulting in a cumulative fee of N35 million for each aspirant.
With five contenders having already acquired the forms, the PDP’s coffers have seen an infusion of N175 million.
Among the early aspirants is Blessing Igbinedion, daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, who made history as the first PDP aspirant from Edo to secure the forms at the party’s headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja, on Wednesday.
Notable figures joining the race by obtaining the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday include Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Asue Ighodalo, Felix Akhabue, and Anslem Ojezua.
The vibrant interest in the forms signals a competitive and dynamic contest within the PDP as the party prepares for the upcoming electoral battle in Edo State.
