The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has relocated its caucus meeting to the Bauchi State Government Lodge in Abuja following the sealing of its national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The meeting, which was originally slated to hold at 7pm at the PDP headquarters, was shifted after the FCTA, under the supervision of Minister Nyesom Wike, shut down the secretariat over alleged non-payment of ground and tenancy rent.
Wadata Plaza, located in the Wuse Zone 5 area of Abuja, has served as the central hub of the opposition party’s administrative and political activities.
The abrupt closure of the building disrupted the scheduled Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting, which was meant to precede the caucus session.
Consequently, party leaders were forced to convene at the Bauchi State Government Lodge to continue deliberations.
The caucus meeting is being held behind closed doors, but party sources disclosed that discussions are expected to centre on the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for Tuesday, May 27.
It is also believed that the implications of the FCTA’s action and the party’s response will form a key part of the agenda.
The PDP caucus consists of serving and former governors, members of the National Assembly, members of the BOT, and former presidents and vice presidents of the country.
Monday’s development marks a fresh challenge for the main opposition party as it prepares for high-level consultations aimed at resolving internal disputes and repositioning for the next political cycle.
