The South-West caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from any purported political coalition, declaring that the zone remains fully committed to the unity and progress of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Rising from a strategic meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, the caucus, in a communiqué signed by the PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, urged members to stay united, focused, and steadfast in their support for the party’s leadership at both zonal and national levels.
The caucus emphasized that the PDP in the South-West is not part of any merger or alliance talks, contrary to widespread speculations. It reaffirmed the loyalty of its members to the National Working Committee (NWC) and backed ongoing efforts to reposition the party for electoral success.
“We are not part of any coalition. The PDP in the South-West remains intact and strongly aligned with the mission to rescue Nigeria from the grips of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.
The caucus commended Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for their leadership and commitment to the growth of the party. It also pledged full support for the upcoming bye-elections in Oyo and Ogun States and the local government elections in Lagos.
While expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation and economic hardship across the country, the caucus backed Governor Makinde’s earlier declaration that the 2027 elections would be a decisive battle between Nigerians and the APC.
In a sharp rebuke of the Federal Government, the PDP leaders in the region demanded the immediate release of withheld local government allocations for Osun State, describing the action as unconstitutional and a threat to grassroots governance.
The caucus urged party organs to remain resolute and work collectively towards the success of the forthcoming national convention, reiterating its confidence in the PDP’s ability to reclaim power at all levels.
