PDP Suspends Benue Ex-Governor Ortom, Three Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom alongside three other prominent members for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision emerged from a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP in Makurdi.

The suspended individuals include Isaac Mffor, the state Deputy Chairman of PDP, and Mr. Bemgba Iortyom, the state Publicity Secretary.

Also suspended was Azua Ashongo, the party’s Vice Chairman of Zone A, for alleged gross insubordination and indiscipline.

The Media Consultant of the PDP, Cornelius Hwande, released a statement on Monday detailing the suspensions.

According to Hwande, Ortom’s suspension was prompted by his support for the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 election and his subsequent call for the Benue PDP to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election.

Hwande explained, “Ortom’s actions have been deemed as a betrayal to the party’s ethos and objectives, warranting his suspension.”

The statement reiterated that the party cannot tolerate such deviations from loyalty and discipline, especially from its high-ranking members.

Furthermore, the suspension of Mffor and Iortyom was linked to their alleged involvement in the snatching of Congress materials intended for the ward congresses conducted last Saturday in Buruku and Ushongo local government areas.

Hwande stressed that their actions were a severe breach of the party’s regulations, contributing to their suspension.
