The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to prominent members openly endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, describing such moves as “dangerous anti-party activities” capable of destabilising the opposition party.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the National Working Committee (NWC) will not hesitate to wield the big stick against members found undermining the PDP’s unity and electoral chances.
Over recent months, some key figures in the PDP — including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; and the Osun State PDP caucus — have openly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, sparking outrage among loyalists.
“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our party by some prominent members whose public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 violate the PDP Constitution,” Ologunagba stated.
Quoting Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), the spokesperson noted that members are expressly prohibited from engaging in actions that undermine the party.
He warned that such conduct has been fuelling internal divisions, causing defections, and threatening the PDP’s political survival.
“To protect and preserve our party’s existence and electoral fortune, the NWC, acting under Section 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, hereby issues a strong reprimand and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions,” Ologunagba declared.
The party called on members to remain steadfast and work towards a successful national convention in November, stressing that loyalty and discipline remain non-negotiable.
