In a significant turn of events, the longstanding tension between the Alake, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, seems to have come to an end.
This positive development unfolded on Thursday during the Lisabi Festival’s 37th edition, hosted by Chief Sarafa Tunji Isola, the immediate past Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Tayese of Egbaland.
The occasion, held at the Mokola-Ilugun home of the late Chief Tairu Braimoh Olaleye, recognized as the “Hero Of The Year,” saw the gathering of the Alake, Osile, and Olowu, marking a significant step towards unity among the Egbas.
Chief Isola’s family, representing the Lisabi Day Hero for 2024, received commendations from Oba Gbadebo, who lauded their contributions to the development of the Egba nation.
The Alake described the event as the most successful celebration of the festival during his reign.
Emphasizing the importance of unity for the socio-economic development of Egbaland, Oba Tejuoso reassured that disunity is now a thing of the past.
He expressed satisfaction that previous misunderstandings are being gradually addressed, stating, “We are gradually blocking the cracks on the wall so that we can continue to be stronger and one as Egba people.”
The Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta, Oba Saka Matemilola, highlighted concerns about perceived disunity affecting the socio-economic development of Egbaland.
He called for a collective focus on strengthening unity during the Lisabi Day cultural festival.
The event reached its pinnacle with the unveiling of the statue of Chief Tairu Braimoh Olaleye at the family home, symbolizing a renewed sense of harmony and solidarity among the Egba people.
Olowu said “We still have a lot of work to do, we should strive for more development of Egba-nation, particularly Abeokuta that should be competing favourably with Lagos in terms of physical infrastructure and others
“Egba in diaspora should come to fastrack development of Egbaland” ,he emphasized.”
