The CEO of Pelican Valley Estate, Promoter of Pelican Valley Estate, Pelican Brief Estate, Pelicans Ecostay Apartments and Pelican’s Greenish Acres farm Estate, Dr Babatunde Adeyemo celebrated his 44th birthday with inmates in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State and gave them bags of rice and cash as part of the celebration.
The realtor firm also had a novelty match with Nigeria Correctional Center, which draws 1-1 respectively.
Dr Babatunde while addressing the inmates at the correctional service disclosed that he chose to celebrate his birthday with the inmates to encourage them not to feel downcast because of where they are, but to encourage them not to give up on God.
Speaking with journalists, Deputy Correctional Center DCC James Ogunmoyede disclosed that after Senator Ibikunle Amosun who came in January to donate to the inmates, the Pelican boss is the first individual to visit the correctional home to make feel among them.
He appealed to individuals to emulate the kind gesture of Dr Babatunde Adeyemo not to neglect the inmates because of their present situation but also move to encourage them.
Other activities include a trophy with a cash price of £20 to the best player in NCC won by Emmanuel Nonso, the Best behaved inmate Female won by Blessing, Best behaved student won by Olusolade Bamgboye.
Also, Dr Adeyemo has initiated moves to restore electricity to Ijeun Ariobiologbo and Arowa, two communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State that have been in darkness for about 60 years.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday with the representatives of the communities to connect them with electricity using its transformer that serves its estate located about 200 metres away from them.
The CEO informed that he decided to undertake the task of connecting the beneficiaries to the national grid as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility to mark his 44th birthday.
Adeyemo hinted the first phase of the intervention would give 20 houses access to electricity while others would be accommodated in subsequent phases.
The Baale of Ijeun Ariobiologbo, Chief Rasheed Odewale, and Baale of Arowa, Chief Akeem Raheem commended the firm for coming to their rescue.
Chief Raheem added that the two communities have been without electricity for over 60 years.
He said before now, people had been promising to connect the communities to public power supply without fulfilling the promises.
Also speaking, Mrs Amoke Alani from Arowa appealed to the Estate firm to also provide people of the community with boreholes while lamenting that the community’s stream which had been their only source of water has now been polluted due to flood.
She maintained that the indigenes and residents risk cholera and other waterborne diseases should they keep drinking water from the stream, especially during this rainy season
