Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with immediate effect, raising fresh signals of an imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mutfwang’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
The letter, which was acknowledged by the ward leadership the following day, expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve and participate in the democratic process.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect,” the governor stated.
He added, “I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
Explaining his decision, Mutfwang said prevailing political realities and his desire for effective governance informed his move.
“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” he said, while assuring the party leadership of his “highest regards.”
Although the governor did not disclose his next political destination, strong indications suggest he is set to join the APC.
The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, had recently announced at an event held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that the Plateau governor was preparing to defect to the ruling party.
