In a recent development, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Umar Abdullahi, an 18-year-old resident of Yelwa, for the alleged rape of a student at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.
The incident occurred at Peace Lodge in Gwalleji, the vicinity hosting the Polytechnic, where Abdullahi, accompanied by five others, reportedly invaded rooms.
The Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, Mohammed Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the suspects, armed with machetes and flashlights, targeted houses in different locations.
According to the police, the victim had filed a complaint of armed robbery and rape, leading to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
During investigations, Abdullahi confessed to the alleged crime and is now set for arraignment on charges related to the assault.
Arrested alongside Abdullahi for armed robbery and criminal conspiracy are Abdulgaffar Abdullahi, 20; Ahmed Abdulkadir, 19; Zakaria Saidu, 21; Musa Saidu, 19; and Musa Mohammed.
The group targeted houses belonging to Victor Amos, 41, of Unguwan Kashu, and Dorcas Denis, 25, of Sabongida, stealing items such as an LG TV ’32’ flat screen, a Samsung Galaxy A51, and an iTEL keypad phone.
Wakil, the police spokesperson, emphasized that the suspects confessed to terrorizing communities around Gwallameji, Rafin Zurfi, Unguwan Kasu, and Millennium quarters in Yelwa area Bauchi.
The police said it has recovered exhibits from the suspects, including an LG 32” flat screen television, a dagger, three torchlights, three machetes, an iTEL keypad phone, and the sum of five thousand nine hundred and ten naira (N5910).
The arrested individuals will face the full force of the law, as the police work to ensure justice is served in this disturbing case.
