The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a female guardian, for allegedly selling a two-week-old baby boy for N3 million in the Ajah area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.
According to police authorities, the arrest followed a detailed investigation by detectives attached to the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.
Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the case was first reported at the Ajah Police Division on May 5, 2025.
A 16-year-old girl, simply identified as Happiness, was said to have become pregnant under undisclosed circumstances.
Due to the family’s financial challenges, she was handed over to Osi, a supposed guardian, for care during the pregnancy.
However, investigation revealed that Osi and her accomplices allegedly conspired to move the teenager to an undisclosed location, where they sold the newborn for N3 million.
Following their arrest, detectives tracked the baby to Agemuwo, a community in Badagry, where he was recovered safely.
“The baby is in good health and is currently receiving care. Arrangements are being made to reunite him with his biological mother,” Hundeyin stated.
The police assured that all suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law and reiterated their commitment to tackling crimes related to human trafficking and child exploitation.
