The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Lawal Nasiru, for allegedly torturing and brutalising an 11-year-old Almajiri pupil in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, identified as Sani Abdullah from Nahuta in Katsina State, was reportedly tied with a thick rope and flogged with sticks and electric cables, leaving him with severe injuries on his hands and legs.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday. He said the case was reported on September 22, 2025, by Idris Mohammed, a 50-year-old staff member of the Social Welfare Office in Darazo.
According to him, a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, swiftly stormed the scene where the suspect was apprehended.
“The victim was rescued and taken to General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment. The suspect confessed to the act during interrogation, claiming he tied the boy to stop him from fleeing the Tsangaya school,” Wakil stated.
However, the minor narrated that he was subjected to prolonged confinement and merciless beating without any wrongdoing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation. He assured that the suspect would be profiled and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
This incident adds to the growing cases of child abuse in the state. Barely 24 hours earlier, police arrested a housewife, Rabi Nuhu, from Magama Gumau in Toro LGA, for allegedly brutalising her five-year-old stepdaughter over bedwetting.
Similarly, last week, a seven-year-old girl was reportedly tortured by her brother’s wife, Suwaira Ibrahim, who allegedly burnt the child’s private part with a hot knife after accusing her of witchcraft.
The Bauchi Police Command urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to desist from acts of violence against children, warning that perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.
