A 48-year-old man, Charles Chukwudi, has been arrested by police for  allegedly forging stamps of Lagos Magistrates and impersonating a police officer.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this, saying, the arrest   follows a series of discreet investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

PLATFORM TIMES reports that Chukwudi’s  alleged fraudulent activities came to light when court officials noticed irregularities in documents purportedly issued by the magistrates.

It was further gathered that upon further scrutiny, the  officials alerted the police, triggering a thorough investigation that led to Chukwudi’s capture within the premises of Tinubu Court on Lagos Island.

According to SP Hundeyin, detectives discovered forged official stamps of Chief Magistrate Admin C/M Adeola Olatunbosun of Chief Magistrate Court I Yaba and Magistrate A.B Ajiferuke of Magistrate Court Epe in Chukwudi’s possession.

He added that these stamps were being used to create fake court documents, which were then sold to unsuspecting members of the public, further complicating legal processes and defrauding individuals seeking genuine legal assistance.

He stated further that that in  addition to the forged stamps, police found a fake police identity card and a photoshopped passport photograph of Chukwudi in a police uniform, indicating the extent of his impersonation scheme.

The fake identity was presumably used to lend credibility to his fraudulent activities and deceive his victims into believing they were dealing with an official law enforcement officer.

Following his arrest, Chukwudi was promptly arraigned and is now facing multiple charges related to forgery, impersonation, and fraud.

SP Hundeyin emphasized that the police are intensifying their investigations to uncover the full extent of Chukwudi’s operations and identify any possible accomplices.

The police have urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The arrest has been met with relief by the public, particularly those who may have been directly affected by Chukwudi’s fraudulent schemes.

The Lagos State Police Command continues to appeal for public cooperation in its efforts to combat fraud and ensure that justice is administered fairly and accurately.
