OSOGBO – Osun state Police command on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 declared a suspected bisexual, Ridwan Alayande wanted for engaging in homosexuality with another suspect, Abdulkabir Mohammed.
Recall that, the Delta State Police Command on August 29, 2023 arrested over 100 suspected homosexuals carrying out a wedding ceremony in a hotel in Delta state.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Opalola Yemisi, one of the suspect’s father-inlaw who is revered Islamic cleric in Osogbo, Imam Kazeem Yunus reported at Osogbo divisional Police headquarters on Saturday that his son in-law, Abdulkabir Mohammed is engaging in bisexual with another gay suspect, Ridwan Alayande.
The Police said upon hearing the complaint, the Imam’s son inlaw was immediately apprehended for further investigation.
According to the Police PRO, when Mohammed was apprehended, the Police recovered nude photos and videos of their sexual activities on the suspect’s mobile phone.
Opalola added that, the suspect confessed to have been in the same sex act with Alayande since their university days.
The Police said immediately it went to the partner’s residence located at 38B, Agoayo, Ilesa garage, Osogbo.
The Police, however, said the suspect, Ridwan Alayande was not at home, but they met his wife.
Upon interrogation, Police said the wife told them the suspect went to his poultry farm in Boredun in Ibokun local government area of Osun state.
The Police noted that, its operatives led a manhunt team to the farm, but the suspect was not found either.
The Police press statement further reads, “The Osun state police command has hereby declared wanted, Mr. Ridwan Alayande, Male, a 32-year-old poultry farmer for bisexual Offence.
“Alayande’s partner, Abdulkabir Mohammed has been arrested and has confessed to the crime which contravenes the Same-sex marriage (prohibition) Act, 2014 and attract 14years imprisonment.
“The law criminalizes public displays of affection between same-sex couples and restricts the work of organizations defending gay people and their rights.
“The law imposes a 14-year prison sentence on anyone who “[enters] into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union,” and a 10-year sentence on individuals or groups, including religious leaders, who “witness, abet, and aid the solemnization of a same-sex marriage or union.” It imposes a 10-year prison sentence on those who “directly or indirectly make [a] public show of [a] same-sex amorous relationship” and anyone who “registers, operates, or participates in gay clubs, societies, and organizations,” including supporters of those groups.
“This law criminalizes the lives of gay and lesbian people, but the damage it would cause extends to every single Nigerian,” the Police spokesperson said.
She, therefore, called on law abiding Nigerians to report the whereabouts of the suspect, Ridwan Alayande to the nearest police station with a reward of N1million naira.
When our reporter visited the suspect’s residence at Obafemi Awolowo way in Osogbo, neither the wife nor the suspect were at home.
Efforts to also reach the suspect through his mobile number supplied by the Police was unreachable as at time of filing this report.
