The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspects following a violent mob attack on the Garko Divisional Police Headquarters that left officers injured, vehicles destroyed, and one person dead.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, broke out after officers from the Wudil Area Command brought three suspects linked to a culpable homicide case to the division for interrogation.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, an angry crowd armed with sticks and stones stormed the station, demanding jungle justice against the suspects.
The mob vandalised the police facility, set a patrol vehicle ablaze, and destroyed three vehicles belonging to Hisbah and the Garko Local Government Council. Windows of the divisional office were also shattered.
At least three policemen sustained injuries during the attack and were rushed to Wudil General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Tragedy struck when a burning tyre exploded, killing one of the attackers on the spot and leaving three others injured.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately ordered a tactical response to restore calm in the community and held an emergency engagement with local stakeholders.
While confirming the arrest of nine suspects, the command said investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing attackers.
Bakori condemned the mob action, warning residents against taking the law into their hands.
“Jungle justice undermines the rule of law and endangers public peace. We urge citizens to always channel grievances through the right authorities rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that security agencies in the state would continue to clamp down on thuggery and criminality.
The attack comes barely three months after the command declared war on violent gangs, known locally as Yan Daba, following a surge in street violence across Kano metropolis.
