Enugu State Police Command has arrested  a 23-year-old self-proclaimed prophet, Chinecherem Nnamoko, on charges of abduction, rape, and illegal possession of firearms.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the arrest comes following a report received by the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, detailing the horrific ordeal of a young girl allegedly subjected to abuse under the guise of spiritual cleansing.

The suspect, whose church is situated in Amorji-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, stands accused of heinous crimes that have shocked the community.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, the preliminary investigation indicates that the prophet purportedly abducted the victim, subjected her to physical assault, and sexually violated her, all under the pretext of providing spiritual solutions to her perceived problems.

The Commissioner stated, “a preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect, an acclaimed prophet and owner of a church (names withheld), in the course of providing the said spiritual service, kept the victim beyond the number of days he promised her parents.

He thereafter compelled them to sell their plot of land to pay him for services rendered.”

Furthermore, during a search conducted at the suspect’s premises, law enforcement officers recovered alarming evidence, including a pump-action gun, a locally-made firearm, and two live cartridges.

This discovery has raised concerns about the prophet’s potential involvement in more serious criminal activities beyond the reported offenses.

The arrest of Chinecherem Nnamoko underscores the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to combatting crimes against vulnerable individuals, especially those perpetrated under the guise of religious or spiritual practices.

The authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover any additional victims and to ensure that the perpetrator faces the full extent of the law.
